Never lose track of your 2,300 practice hours
Log the hours for every shift and watch them count toward the NMC's 2,300-hour practice requirement automatically, per placement and overall.
Plan placement, uni and life in one calendar
A calendar built for the realities of a nursing course: long days, night shifts and study weeks. Plan shifts ahead, then mark them as completed to feed your hours log.
All 219 proficiencies, and the evidence for each
Track every one of the 219 NMC proficiency statements across the 7 platforms and both annexes. Set a status, attach evidence from your shifts, skills and reflections, and see your gaps at a glance.
The NMC Annexe B skills, plus your own
Your clinical skills list seeds from the NMC's Annexe B nursing procedures, the national baseline every skills passport builds on, and you can add the local skills your university requires.
Build medicines knowledge and numeracy
Keep your own medication notes as you meet new drugs on placement, and sharpen your maths with a drug-calculation practice tool that checks your working and tracks accuracy.
Reflect with the Gibbs cycle, PII-safe
Write structured reflections using the Gibbs reflective cycle, with a guided prompt for each of the six stages and a standing reminder to keep patient-identifiable information out.
Hours, proficiencies and skills all follow the NMC Standards of proficiency for registered nurses, so what you track is what your programme assesses.
Hours, shifts, proficiencies, skills, medications, reflections and revision, all connected, so evidence flows between them.
No patient-identifiable data, cookieless analytics, and a demo mode that keeps everything on your device.
UK pre-registration nursing students must complete at least 2,300 hours of supervised clinical practice. This sits within a minimum 4,600-hour programme (2,300 practice plus 2,300 theory) set by the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). Up to 600 of the practice hours may be simulated learning. PlaceMate tracks your progress toward the 2,300-hour practice target.
Log the hours for each shift as you complete it and count them toward your 2,300-hour NMC practice target. PlaceMate does this automatically: add a shift, mark it counted, and it keeps a running total per placement and overall, flags simulated hours against the 600-hour cap, and shows how many hours you have left.
The NMC proficiencies are the standards every UK registered nurse must meet, published in the NMC Standards of proficiency for registered nurses (2024). They are organised into 7 platforms plus Annexe A (communication skills) and Annexe B (11 nursing procedures). PlaceMate tracks all 219 individual proficiency statements so you can see, and evidence, exactly what you have achieved.
A structured model helps. The Gibbs reflective cycle walks through six stages: description, feelings, evaluation, analysis, conclusion and action plan. PlaceMate gives you a guided Gibbs template with a prompt for each stage and a standing reminder to keep patient-identifiable information out, so you can link the reflection to a shift or proficiency as evidence.
